LANSING, MI— The Lansing City Council is inviting the public to attend a historic Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., at Lansing City Hall’s Tony Benavides City Council Chambers.
The meeting will include the ceremonial swearing-in of two Latina councilmembers, bringing the Lansing City Council to a historic benchmark of 50% Hispanic representation, with four of its eight members identifying as Latino. Clara L. Martinez, elected at large, and Deyanira Nevarez Martinez, elected to represent the city’s 2nd Ward, will take their oaths of office and join Jeremy A. Garza and Trini Pehlivanoglu on the council.
The agenda also includes a resolution to elect the 2026 City Council President and Vice President, establishing council leadership for the upcoming year.
Residents may attend the meeting in person or participate virtually. Agendas and meeting materials are available through the City of Lansing website.
