GRAND RAPIDS, MI (2-21-26) — The Grand Rapids Gold returned to Van Andel Arena looking to make a statement against the Eastern Conference-leading Osceola Magic, and for one quarter, they did just that.

The Gold matched the Magic’s intensity early, closing the opening period with a 21-20 lead. Defensive energy and strong rebounding helped the home team dictate tempo in the first 12 minutes, as Grand Rapids controlled the glass and limited Osceola to one-and-done possessions.

But the momentum shifted quickly in the second quarter.

Osceola found its rhythm from beyond the arc and began carving up the Gold defense with crisp ball movement. The Magic poured in 38 second-quarter points, turning a one-point deficit into a commanding 58-45 halftime advantage. Their ability to stretch the floor — finishing 17-of-43 (40%) from three-point range — proved to be the difference-maker.

Grand Rapids struggled to regain its footing after the break. Osceola continued to apply pressure in transition and capitalized on key turnovers, extending the lead to 88-65 by the end of the third quarter. The Magic led for 68% of the contest and built a game-high 28-point cushion before closing out the 121-95 victory.

Despite the final margin, the Gold showed fight on the boards. Grand Rapids outrebounded Osceola 51-50, including 18 offensive rebounds that created extra scoring opportunities. The Gold also scored 25 points off turnovers, highlighting flashes of defensive disruption.

However, efficiency told the story. The Magic shot 48% from the field (44-of-92), compared to 39% (36-of-92) for Grand Rapids. The Gold also left points at the free-throw line, converting just 8-of-15 (53%).

Individually, Dane Goodwin (#23) led Grand Rapids with 23 points, attacking from the perimeter and mid-range. Moses Brown (#34) delivered a strong interior performance with 22 points and 12 rebounds, recording a double-double. Curtis Jones (#1) added 15 points and five assists, while Terrence Hargrove Jr. (#2) chipped in 15 off the bench.

For Osceola, Lester Quinones (#24) paced all scorers with 24 points, while Javonte Smart (#1) provided a spark off the bench with 22. Colin Castleton (#3) controlled the paint with 18 points and 15 rebounds, anchoring a balanced Magic attack that featured 23 assists on 44 made field goals.

The loss serves as a measuring stick for the Gold against one of the G League’s top teams. While the first-quarter execution showcased their potential, sustaining that level of play for four quarters remains the next step as Grand Rapids continues its push through the schedule.
