EAST LANSING, MI (3-1-26) — The No. 15 Spartans hoped to close out the regular season on a high note at the Breslin Center, but No. 13 Ohio State had other plans. Behind a dominant offensive showing and relentless pace, the Buckeyes handed Michigan State an 87-68 setback Sunday afternoon.
Ohio State (24-6, 13-5 B1G) controlled the tempo for most of the contest, shooting 49 percent from the field and a blistering 56 percent from beyond the arc, knocking down 18 three-pointers. The Buckeyes also won the battle on the glass, 41-26, and converted 24 points off Spartan turnovers.
Jaloni Cambridge (#22) led all scorers with 33 points, connecting on 7-of-12 from three-point range and attacking off the bounce. Chance Gray (#2) added 21 points, including seven triples of her own. Elsa Lemmilä (#12) recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Kennedy Cambridge (#3) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Buckeyes’ ability to stretch the floor and create second-chance opportunities proved decisive. Ohio State built a lead that swelled to as many as 30 points and led for 94 percent of the contest.
Michigan State (22-7, 11-7 B1G) battled but struggled to string together consistent runs. Grace VanSlooten (#14) paced the Spartans with 17 points and seven rebounds. Rashunda Jones (#1) provided a spark off the bench with 16 points, including four three-pointers, while Inés Sotelo (#10) added 11 points in 22 minutes.
Despite scoring 30 points in the paint and shooting 79 percent from the free-throw line, the Spartans were unable to overcome Ohio State’s perimeter barrage and rebounding edge.
Both teams now turn their attention to the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, which begins next Wednesday. If each program finishes inside the top 16 nationally, they are positioned to host first- and second-round NCAA Tournament games beginning March 20-21.
