ANN ARBOR, MI (2-28-26) — It was a historic afternoon at Crisler Center as No. 8 Michigan honored seniors Alyssa Crockett (#20), Brooke Quarles Daniels (#5) and Ally VanTimmerer (#21), retired the jersey of program legend Katelyn Flaherty, and rolled past No. 14 Maryland 87-69 in a statement Big Ten victory.
Before tipoff, Michigan raised Flaherty’s No. 3 to the rafters, cementing her legacy as the all-time leading scorer in Michigan basketball history — men’s or women’s — with 2,776 career points. Flaherty also owns program records for field goals made (984), three-pointers (410), and 30-point games (13), a résumé that reshaped the trajectory of Wolverine women’s basketball.
The current Wolverines followed that emotional ceremony with one of their most complete performances of the season.
Michigan shot 57 percent from the field and 63 percent from three-point range, controlling the game for 94 percent of the contest and building a lead that stretched to 20 points.
Olivia Olson (#1) led all scorers with 28 points and eight rebounds, attacking off the dribble and knocking down 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Syla Swords (#12) added 17 points, while Mila Holloway (#3) contributed 12 points and six assists. Te’Yala Delfosse (#33) provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, including two key triples that helped break the game open.
The Wolverines also turned defense into offense, forcing 21 Maryland turnovers and converting them into 32 points. Michigan tallied 20 assists on 34 made field goals and outscored the Terrapins 48-36 in the paint.
Maryland was paced by Oluchi Okananwa (#7) with 19 points. Yarden Garzon (#12) added 14, while Addi Mack (#3) and Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu (#9) each scored 12. Despite shooting 46 percent from three and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line, the Terrapins could not overcome Michigan’s efficiency and ball pressure.
With the win, Michigan improves to 24-5 overall and 15-3 in the Big Ten. Maryland drops to 23-7 and 11-7 in conference play.
Both teams now turn their attention to the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis. Fifteen teams qualify, with first-round games beginning Wednesday, March 4. The top four seeds receive double byes into Friday’s quarterfinals (March 6), followed by semifinals on Saturday, March 7 and the championship game Sunday, March 8 on CBS.
Senior Day was about honoring the past and celebrating the present — and with Flaherty’s banner now hanging overhead, the Wolverines made sure the future looks just as bright.
