FORT WORTH, TX (3-31-26) — The Michigan Wolverines women’s basketball saw its historic NCAA Tournament run come to an end Monday night, falling 77-41 to the top-seeded Texas Longhorns women’s basketball in the Elite Eight.

After an impressive path through the opening rounds—covered on-site by La Prensa Latina News Wire at Crisler Center—Michigan ran into a Texas team that showcased why it was one of the nation’s elite on both ends of the floor.

Texas set the tone early and never looked back, using defensive pressure and efficient shooting to build a commanding lead. The Longhorns shot 47% from the field (30-64) while forcing Michigan into a difficult offensive night, holding the Wolverines to just 23% shooting (13-57) and 13% from three-point range (2-15).

Leading the way for Texas was Madison Booker (#35) with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while Justice Carlton (#11) added 15 points and 7 boards. Inside presence and rebounding proved to be a major factor, as Texas dominated the glass 49-32 and finished with 17 offensive rebounds, creating multiple second-chance opportunities.

For Michigan, offense proved hard to come by throughout the night.

Mila Holloway (#3) and Olivia Olson (#1) led the Wolverines with 11 points each, while Syla Swords (#12) added 8 points. Despite getting to the free throw line effectively (13-14, 93%), Michigan struggled to find rhythm from the field and committed 15 turnovers against Texas’ relentless pressure.

Texas’ ball movement also stood out, finishing with 21 assists, including a strong performance from Rori Harmon (#3), who controlled the tempo with 13 assists.

Despite the loss, Michigan’s run to the Elite Eight marks one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Wolverines came within one win of reaching their first-ever Final Four, a milestone that remains just out of reach—but clearly within sight for the future.

Texas, meanwhile, advances to face UCLA Bruins women’s basketball in the Final Four in Phoenix, returning to the national semifinals for a second consecutive season.
