LANSING, MI (5-23-26)— The sounds of Tejano music filled the air Saturday as families, parishioners, and visitors gathered at the annual Cristo Rey Fiesta on Lansing’s south side. La Prensa Latina News Wire was on hand to enjoy the lively atmosphere and the energetic performance by La Nueva Onda of Adrian, Michigan, as the popular festival continued its long-standing tradition of celebrating Latino culture, faith, and community.
Held at the grounds of Cristo Rey Catholic Church, the 47th Annual Cristo Rey Fiesta once again welcomed thousands from across Mid-Michigan for a weekend filled with authentic Mexican cuisine, live entertainment, dancing, vendors, and family activities.
Saturday’s entertainment brought crowds to the dance floor as La Nueva Onda performed a mix of Tejano favorites and crowd-pleasing hits that kept festivalgoers singing and dancing throughout the evening. Families gathered under tents enjoying music, laughter, and fellowship while children explored carnival rides and games.
Festival attendees also enjoyed a wide selection of traditional foods including gorditas, street tacos, fajita tacos, barbacoa, nachos, menudo, aguas frescas, and frozen drinks. The Mercado marketplace featured arts, crafts, clothing, and cultural items from vendors representing different Latin American traditions and communities.
Since 1979, the Cristo Rey Fiesta has served as one of Mid-Michigan’s premier Latino festivals and a major fundraiser supporting church and community outreach programs. Organizers noted the event helps fund services including housing assistance, food distribution, senior meals, holiday baskets, health clinics, and referrals for families in need.
The celebration continues tomorrow with additional live entertainment, food, cultural activities, and the annual Salute to Veterans Ceremony following Mass. Organizers encourage the community to come out and continue supporting one of Lansing’s longest-running Latino traditions.
