GRAND BLANC, MI — Michael Block entered Sunday with control of The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren. By the time the final putt dropped at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club, Steven Alker had turned Block’s unraveling into another PGA TOUR Champions victory.

Alker fired a final-round 68 to finish at 15-under-par 201 and capture the 2026 Ally Challenge by three strokes over Retief Goosen, who charged into second with a final-round 64 and finished at 12-under. The victory earned Alker $330,000 from the $2.2 million purse.

It was Alker’s second consecutive PGA TOUR Champions victory after winning the Rogers Charity Classic the previous week.

But the story of Sunday was also what happened to Block.

The popular Southern California club professional had electrified Warwick Hills through the opening two rounds, shooting 66-65 to reach 13-under and take a two-shot advantage over Alker into the final round. Block had played Saturday without a bogey and appeared positioned to turn his sponsor exemption into one of the biggest victories of his career.

Instead, the final round demonstrated just how quickly championship golf can change.

Block remained tied for the lead with nine holes remaining, but three bogeys on the back nine helped derail his bid for the championship. He closed with a 2-over 74 — nine shots worse than his Saturday round — and fell from first into a tie for third at 11-under 205 with Stewart Cink and Greg Chalmers.

Alker did what champions are supposed to do when the door opens.

Starting Sunday two shots behind Block, the New Zealander remained steady while his playing rival began surrendering strokes. Alker’s 68 proved more than enough to take command and eventually secure the three-shot victory.

Block’s disappointing Sunday did come with a significant consolation. His tie for third earned him a spot in the Sanford International in two weeks, continuing what has become an impressive PGA TOUR Champions opportunity for the 50-year-old who captured national attention during his memorable run at the 2023 PGA Championship.

Cabrera and Gonzalez Carry Latino Presence Into Sunday

For La Prensa Latina News Wire, two names near the top of the leaderboard carried particular significance throughout the weekend: Argentina’s Ángel Cabrera and Ricardo Gonzalez.

Both were positioned within striking distance entering Sunday.

Gonzalez opened the tournament with a 66 and followed with a 69, putting him at 9-under and tied for fourth after 36 holes — just four strokes behind Block. Cabrera entered the final round another shot back at 8-under following consecutive rounds of 68.

Cabrera ultimately produced the stronger Sunday finish.

The two-time major champion shot a final-round 70 to reach 10-under 206, finishing alone in sixth place and just five strokes behind Alker. Cabrera’s performance kept him within the championship conversation and gave the Argentine veteran one of the strongest finishes of the weekend.

Gonzalez, meanwhile, could not reproduce the form that had put him among the leaders Friday and Saturday. He closed with a 74 and finished tied for 14th at 7-under 209.

Their presence near the top of the leaderboard through much of the tournament provided a notable Latino storyline during one of Michigan’s premier professional golf events.

The final leaderboard showed just how much movement Sunday produced. Goosen’s spectacular 64 vaulted him into second, while Cink shot 67 to join Block and Chalmers at 11-under. Cabrera followed at 10-under.

For Block, Sunday will undoubtedly be remembered as an opportunity that slipped away. He arrived at the first tee holding a two-shot advantage and had been tied for the lead as late as the back nine.

For Alker, it was exactly the opposite.

He stayed patient, stayed close and took advantage when the tournament changed direction.

When it did, Alker was ready — and left Grand Blanc as the 2026 Ally Challenge champion.
