ST. JOHNS, MI (9-23-26) – Families gathered at Briggs District Library Wednesday evening for a celebration of Hispanic heritage featuring traditional dance, bilingual storytelling, crafts, activities and food.

The community event brought children and parents together for an evening designed to celebrate Hispanic culture while giving younger participants an opportunity to learn through music, dance and hands-on activities.

A highlight of the evening was a performance by Greater Lansing Ballet Folklórico, which brought traditional Mexican folklórico dancing to the library. The colorful costumes, music and movement provided families with an up-close look at a tradition that continues to connect generations through dance.

The celebration also included a special bilingual storytime, providing children an opportunity to hear Spanish and English incorporated into the evening’s programming.

Families participated in hands-on crafts and other activities throughout the event, while snacks added to the relaxed, family-oriented atmosphere.

The St. Johns gathering was part of Hispanic Heritage Month, observed nationally from September 15 through October 15. The month recognizes the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States.

Wednesday evening’s celebration demonstrated how Hispanic Heritage Month is being recognized not only in Michigan’s larger cities, but also in smaller Mid-Michigan communities such as St. Johns.

For families attending the event, the evening combined education and entertainment while providing an opportunity to celebrate Hispanic culture together as a community.
