MEDINAH, IL (9-27-26) — For three days, the International Team appeared poised to make Presidents Cup history at Medinah Country Club.

On Sunday, the United States took it away.

The Americans erased a three-point deficit during a dominant singles performance, defeating the International Team 17-13 to capture their 11th consecutive Presidents Cup.

La Prensa Latina News Wire was on location throughout the weekend at Medinah, documenting a Presidents Cup that featured momentum swings, packed galleries and a significant Colombian presence inside the ropes.

The International Team entered Sunday’s 12 singles matches leading 10½–7½, marking the first time the Internationals had carried a lead into Sunday singles at a Presidents Cup played on U.S. soil.

But the Americans responded quickly.

Cameron Young started the charge with a 3-and-2 victory over Ryo Hisatsune. From there, the red began spreading across the massive scoreboards surrounding Medinah’s Course No. 3.

The United States eventually won eight of the first 10 completed singles matches, transforming what began as an International advantage into an American celebration.

Jacob Bridgeman ultimately delivered the clinching point, defeating Min Woo Lee 1-up on the 18th hole to guarantee the Presidents Cup would remain with the United States.

Echavarría Gives Colombian Fans a Moment to Remember

One of Sunday’s matches carried particular significance for La Prensa Latina News Wire’s coverage.

Colombia’s Nico Echavarría faced world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in singles.

Scheffler built a 3-up advantage through 13 holes, leaving Echavarría with little margin for error as the match moved toward its conclusion.

The match also produced a notable display of sportsmanship on No. 14.

A spectator yelled during Echavarría’s backswing, disrupting his tee shot. Scheffler immediately admonished the gallery and later conceded Echavarría’s lengthy par putt.

Then came No. 16.

Standing in the rough on the par-3, Echavarría faced a birdie attempt from approximately 64 feet.

He rolled it in.

The long putt disappeared into the cup, giving Echavarría the hole and producing one of the loudest and most emotional moments of his Sunday round. The Colombian responded by turning toward the crowd and putting a finger to his lips.

For a moment, the match was still alive.

But it wasn’t enough.

Scheffler answered on No. 17, where a two-putt par closed out Echavarría 2 and 1 and secured another point for the United States.

Echavarría didn’t leave Medinah with the singles point, but his appearance represented another important moment for Colombian golf.

His presence was part of a larger Colombian contingent we followed throughout the Presidents Cup.

Camilo Villegas served as an assistant captain for the International Team, while his brother Manuel “Manny” Villegas caddied for South Korea’s Si Woo Kim. Cali native Fabián Azcárate was alongside Echavarría as his caddie.

International Lead Disappears

Sunday’s outcome was particularly difficult for the International Team after what it accomplished Friday.

The United States led 3–2 after Thursday’s opening Four-ball session before the Internationals delivered one of the tournament’s defining performances, sweeping all five Friday Foursomes matches.

That 5–0 session gave the Internationals a 7–3 advantage.

The Americans began their comeback Saturday morning, winning Four-ball 2½–1½. Saturday afternoon’s Foursomes finished tied 2–2, leaving the International Team with its historic 10½–7½ advantage entering Sunday.

Then the Americans completed the comeback.

The final 17–13 score doesn’t completely capture how competitive the Presidents Cup was through its first three days.

For much of the week, the International Team controlled Medinah.

On Sunday, the United States controlled the scoreboard when it mattered most.

Four Days at Medinah

From Echavarría competing against the world’s No. 1 player Sunday to the Villegas brothers and Azcárate contributing in different roles, Colombia was represented throughout the week.

And even in defeat, Echavarría gave Colombian golf one final highlight.

A 64-foot putt.

A birdie on No. 16.

It wasn’t enough to defeat Scheffler.

It was, however, one more memorable moment from a Presidents Cup that ultimately ended with the United States completing its comeback and once again lifting the Cup.
