EAST LANSING, MI (3-19-26) — The Ishpeming Hematites punched their ticket to the MHSAA Division 4 Girls Basketball State Championship game with a hard-fought 37-34 semifinal victory over the Morenci Bulldogs.
In a game that saw momentum swing throughout, Ishpeming relied on timely scoring and composure down the stretch to secure the win. After trailing early, the Hematites steadily chipped away and took control in the second half.
Ishpeming’s quarter-by-quarter scoring showed their progression: 6-18-25-37, as they outpaced Morenci late to close out the game.
Leading the way for the Hematites was Jenenssa Eagle (#3), who delivered a game-high 20 points, while Mya Hemmer (#14) provided a strong secondary presence with 15 points.
Morenci came out aggressive, leading early behind Colbie Ekins (#1), who scored 18 points, and Emersyn Bacheldor (#33), who added 14. The Bulldogs’ scoring by quarters (12-20-27-34) reflected a strong start, but they were unable to hold off Ishpeming’s late push.
With the victory, Ishpeming advances to face the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks in the MHSAA Division 4 State Championship on Saturday, March 21 at 10 a.m. at the MSU Breslin Center.
The Hematites now stand one win away from a state title, while Morenci’s season ends after a gritty semifinal performance.
