Tigers Rally Late, Edge Royals 2-1 to Extend Home Win Streak

DETROIT, MI (4/14/26) โ The Detroit Tigers delivered late-inning drama Tuesday night at Comerica Park, scoring two runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Kansas City Royals 2-1 and keep their home winning streak alive.
Locked in a tight pitchersโ duel for much of the night, Detroit found itself trailing 1-0 after Kansas City scratched across a run in the second inning. From there, it became a battle of patience and execution, with Tigers starter Framber Valdez #59 keeping the game within reach.
Valdez turned in a strong outing, going 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out one. He induced key ground balls throughout the night, giving Detroit a chance to stay within striking distance.
The breakthrough finally came in the bottom of the eighth.
With pressure mounting, Zach McKinstry #39 came around to score on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1 and igniting the crowd of 16,655. Moments later, Dillon Dingler #13 delivered the decisive blow, ripping a double to left field that brought home Kevin McGonigle #7 for the go-ahead run.
Dingler finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI, continuing his steady production at the plate.
Out of the bullpen, Will Vest #19 earned the win with a dominant eighth inning, striking out all three batters he faced. Closer Kenley Jansen #74 shut the door in the ninth to secure his third save of the season.
Detroitโs defense also played a role, turning a key double play and limiting Kansas City to just four hits on the night.
