DETROIT, MI (5-5-26) — Frustration boiled over Tuesday night at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers dropped their second straight game to the Boston Red Sox, falling 10-3 in an emotional contest filled with home runs, ejections, and benches clearing drama.

Detroit entered the night looking to even the series after Boston claimed Monday’s opener, but tensions escalated quickly after the Red Sox capitalized on early mistakes and timely hitting.

The Tigers showed fight immediately. Matt Vierling (#8) launched a first-inning solo home run to energize the Comerica Park crowd, while Wenceel Pérez (#46) later added an RBI single to keep Detroit within striking distance early.

Boston answered with power of its own, however, highlighted by a three-run blast from Ceddanne Rafaela (#3) in the opening inning. The Red Sox then broke the game open with a five-run third inning before adding back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth off Detroit starter Framber Valdez (#59).

Moments later, emotions erupted.

After surrendering consecutive home runs to Willson Contreras (#40) and Wilyer Abreu (#52), Valdez (#59) hit a Boston batter with an inside pitch, triggering both dugouts and bullpens to empty onto the field. Players from both clubs exchanged heated words near home plate as coaches and umpires rushed to separate the chaos.

No punches were thrown, but the confrontation electrified the crowd as Tigers fans roared in support of Detroit’s fiery response. Valdez (#59) was ejected following the incident, ending a rough outing but earning appreciation from many fans for refusing to let Boston celebrate comfortably inside Comerica Park.

Boston finished with 12 hits while Rafaela (#3) drove in four runs to lead the Red Sox offense. Brayan Bello (#66) settled in after Detroit’s early push and earned the victory for Boston.

Despite the defeat, the Tigers continued to battle late and showed the intensity of a club unwilling to back down during a tense divisional-style atmosphere between two proud franchises.

Detroit will now try to avoid a three-game sweep Wednesday in the finale of the series at Comerica Park, where the Tigers hope to channel Tuesday’s emotion into a much-needed bounce-back performance.
