SOUTH BEND, IN (Jan. 27, 2026) — No. 17 Virginia Cavaliers survived a grueling double-overtime battle Tuesday night, edging the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 100–97 at Purcell Pavilion.

Virginia, ranked No. 17 nationally, improved to 17–3 overall and 6–2 in ACC play with the road victory. Thijs De Ridder (#28) led the Cavaliers with a team-high 32 points, shooting 9-of-20 from the field and converting 14 of 15 free throws in a physically demanding contest that stretched deep into the second overtime.

Sam Lewis (#5) added 21 points, connecting on five three-pointers while pulling down nine rebounds and handing out six assists in 43 minutes of action. Virginia shot 48 percent from the floor and held a 40–35 rebounding edge, while making 28 of 35 free throws to withstand Notre Dame’s late pushes.

Notre Dame was led by Cole Certa (#5), who poured in a game-high 34 points, including five three-pointers, to keep the Fighting Irish within striking distance throughout regulation and both overtime periods. Jalen Haralson (#10) finished with 20 points and seven assists, while Brady Koehler (#6) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Notre Dame battled throughout the night but dropped to 11–10 overall and 2–6 in ACC play. Virginia sealed the win with timely free throws and defensive stops in the final minutes of the second overtime in front of 4,012 fans.
