DETROIT, MI (5-17-26) — Thousands of visitors filled the historic Eastern Market on Sunday as Flower Day 2026 returned for another colorful celebration of spring in the city.
Now spanning more than 60 years, the annual tradition once again transformed the market district into one of the Midwest’s largest flower festivals, featuring more than 150 flower vendors from across Michigan and neighboring states. Families, gardeners, and flower enthusiasts arrived early to browse endless rows of hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, and specialty plants lining the market sheds and surrounding streets.
The all-day event, held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., also featured live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities that brought energy and excitement to Detroit’s iconic market destination. Organizers described Flower Day as one of Eastern Market’s signature traditions, drawing visitors from throughout Metro Detroit and beyond.
Attendees packed carts and wagons with flowers while local growers showcased vibrant displays of petunias, marigolds, geraniums, succulents, and other seasonal favorites. For many families, the annual outing has become a springtime ritual passed down through generations.
In addition to Sunday’s festival, Eastern Market announced it will continue its popular Flower Tuesday Markets throughout May on May 19 and May 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Sheds 5 and 6. The Tuesday markets provide visitors with additional flower selections, lighter crowds, and easier parking opportunities.
Flower vendors will also remain available daily in Shed 6 throughout the month beginning at sunrise through sunset.
