LANSING, MI (5-28-26) — Ali Camarillo (#11) drove in four runs, including a three-run home run, as the Lansing Lugnuts defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 6-1 Thursday night before 3,419 fans at Jackson Field.

West Michigan (15-33) outhit Lansing 10-8 but struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving 11 runners on base and grounding into three double plays.

The Whitecaps struck first in the top of the opening inning. Woody Hadeen (#3) reached base and advanced into scoring position before Bryce Rainer (#2) delivered a two-out RBI single to center field, giving West Michigan a 1-0 lead.

The Whitecaps threatened again in the second inning. Junior Tilien (#4) doubled to left field and Cristian Santana (#8) attempted to score from first base, but Lansing left fielder Devin Taylor (#4) fired a strike home to cut down Santana and keep the deficit at one run.

Lansing (21-27) broke through in the third inning, tying the game before erupting for five runs in the fourth.

Casey Yamauchi (#5) delivered a two-run double to give the Lugnuts their first lead of the night. Later in the inning, Camarillo (#11) connected on a three-run home run to left field, extending the advantage to 6-1.

Camarillo finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and six total bases, while Yamauchi went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Lansing produced five of its six RBIs with two outs.

The Whitecaps collected 10 hits, led by Rainer’s three-hit performance. Rainer finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Hadeen (#3), Tilien (#4), Clayton Campbell (#25), Luke Shliger (#7), and Max Clark Shpur each added hits.

Lansing starter Zane Taylor (#33) earned the victory, improving to 4-3 on the season. Taylor allowed one run on eight hits over 6.2 innings while striking out two.

Griffin Kirn (#31) worked 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Gerlin Rosario (#20) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win.

For West Michigan, Andrew Sears (#22) allowed one run on two hits over 2.2 innings. Carlos Lequerica (#36) took the loss after surrendering five runs in 1.1 innings. Lucas Elissalt (#20) provided four innings of scoreless relief, allowing four hits while striking out four.

The six-game series continues Friday night at Jackson Field as the Whitecaps and Lugnuts continue their Midwest League rivalry.
