DETROIT, MI (7-25-26) – Salvador Perez (#13) became the Kansas City Royals’ all-time home run leader before Nick Loftin (#12) delivered a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning of a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Perez made franchise history in the seventh inning when he sent a pitch from Kyle Finnegan (#67) 401 feet over the left-field wall. The game-tying blast was the 318th home run of Perez’s career, breaking the Royals record held by George Brett (#5) for 40 years.

The homer also erased a 2-1 Detroit lead and gave Kansas City an opportunity to complete its late comeback.

With the score tied and one out in the ninth, Loftin drove a pitch from Jacob Waguespack (#58) 397 feet over the left-field wall. It was Loftin’s fifth home run of the season and gave the Royals their first lead since the second inning.

Alex Lange (#56) protected the one-run advantage in the bottom of the ninth to record his 10th save. Colt Keith (#33) opened the inning with a single, but Lange retired the next three batters and recorded two strikeouts.

Kansas City opened the scoring in the second inning. Vinnie Pasquantino (#9) singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Loftin moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Michael Massey (#19) followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Pasquantino to score.

Detroit answered in the bottom half of the inning. Riley Greene (#31) doubled and scored when Hao-Yu Lee (#50) delivered a two-out double to right field.

Lee gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a 402-foot solo home run to left. The homer was his sixth of the season and accounted for both of Detroit’s RBIs.

Michael Wacha (#52) kept the Royals within striking distance, allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings. Wacha walked two and struck out three while throwing 66 of his 96 pitches for strikes.

Daniel Lynch IV (#41) allowed one hit during a scoreless eighth inning and earned the victory, improving his record to 4-2. Lange followed with a scoreless ninth to complete the comeback.

Detroit starter Casey Mize (#12) allowed one run on three hits over six innings. Mize struck out three and did not issue a walk.

Waguespack took the loss after allowing Loftin’s decisive homer. He surrendered one run on one hit and struck out one over 1 2/3 innings.

Pasquantino led Kansas City’s seven-hit offense by going 3-for-4, while Carter Jensen (#22) added two hits. Perez and Loftin supplied the Royals’ two home runs.

The Tigers finished with eight hits but went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven. Lee, Greene and Keith each recorded two hits.
