FLINT, MI (7-26-26) – Oliver Möller-Jensen scored in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time Sunday to send the Flint City Bucks to the USL League Two National Championship with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Ventura County Fusion at Atwood Stadium.
After more than 98 scoreless minutes, Möller-Jensen delivered the match’s lone goal at 90+9 to secure Flint’s place in the national championship game.
The Bucks will host defending USL League Two champion Vermont Green FC at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Atwood Stadium. Vermont advanced with a 7-1 victory over Laredo Heat SC in the other national semifinal.
Flint and Ventura County entered halftime scoreless as both teams struggled to find a breakthrough. The Bucks’ defense kept the Fusion off the scoreboard throughout the match before Möller-Jensen decided the contest in its final moments.
The shutout was Flint’s third in four playoff matches. The Bucks have outscored their postseason opponents 9-1, defeating FC Buffalo 2-0, Steel City FC 2-1, Peoria City 4-0 and Ventura County 1-0.
Möller-Jensen has scored twice during Flint’s playoff run. He also opened the scoring in the Bucks’ 2-1 victory over Steel City in the Central Conference semifinals.
Sunday’s result extended Flint’s winning streak to seven matches. It also ended an unbeaten stretch for a Ventura County team that had averaged more than three goals per game over its previous six contests.
The victory provided a measure of redemption for the Bucks after Ventura County defeated Flint 1-0 in the 2022 national semifinal before winning that season’s championship.
Flint will now pursue the fifth national championship in club history. The Bucks won their most recent title at Atwood Stadium in 2019, defeating Reading United AC 1-0 in extra time before more than 7,000 spectators.
Vermont Green enters the championship match as the defending national champion. The Green have scored 19 goals and conceded only once through four playoff matches, while Flint has recorded three postseason shutouts and will carry a seven-match winning streak into the final.
